John earned a Bachelor of Science in Personal Financial Planning from Brigham Young University and an MBA in Taxation and Personal Financial Planning from Golden Gate University, both pioneers in financial planning education.
A Registered Principal and Investment Advisory Representative (IAR) with Cetera Advisor Networks LLC, John is also a long-standing member of the Financial Planning Association, where he previously served on the local Board of Directors. For decades, he has educated the public on financial planning, investment management, and estate planning through university courses, corporate seminars, and community programs.

Family & Personal Life
A Southern California native, John met and married his wife, Denise, while attending Brigham Young University. After completing graduate school in the San Francisco Bay Area, they settled in Southern California in 1983 before relocating to Salt Lake City, Utah in 2020. Married for 42 years, John and Denise have seven children and enjoy spending time with their growing family across the U.S. and abroad.
An avid outdoorsman, John enjoys hiking, long-distance backpacking, and off-road motorcycle riding. Some of his most memorable adventures include hiking the John Muir Trail and High Sierra Trail with his sons.
A private pilot with an instrument rating, John regularly flies his Cirrus SR22T for business, leisure, and charitable missions with Angel Flight West.
Community Involvement
John and Denise are committed to making a difference in their community and beyond. They actively support:
- ANASAZI Foundation – A nonprofit helping families through outdoor behavioral healthcare programs.
- Engage Now Africa – A humanitarian organization providing clean water, education, healthcare, and fighting modern slavery across Africa.
